The Ukrainian government succeeded in negotiating the release of 14 Ukrainian prisoners of war, including a 5-months pregnant servicewoman.

According to Vereshchuk: "We are returning home 14 of our citizens: 7 military personnel and 7 civilians. This is a particularly important [prisoner] exchange for me: one of the servicewomen is 5 months pregnant.

Details: This prisoner exchange is the 8th officially conducted by the military-political governments of Ukraine and the Russian Federation.

Background:
- Two days ago, on 28 April, Ukrainian government held the 7th prisoner exchange, freeing 45 Ukrainians from Russian captivity.
- On 19 April, Ukrainian authorities conducted the 5th prisoner exchange, rescuing 76 Ukrainians. Of these, 60 were military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the rest were civilians. Two days later, on 21 April, Ukraine once again exchanged prisoners of war, rescuing 19 Ukrainians this time.
- On 14 April, Ukrainian authorities held a 4th, 30-for-30 prisoner-of-war exchange. On 1 April, Ukraine exchanged 86 Russian military personnel for Ukrainian prisoners, freeing in particular 15 servicewomen.
- On 24 March, Ukrainian authorities exchanged prisoners of war in a 10-for-10 format. In addition, 19 crew members of the Sapphire rescue ship captured by Russian troops were released.
- Earlier, Ukrainian government also exchanged 9 Russian conscripts for Ivan Fedorov, Mayor of Melitopol, who was abducted by Russian soldiers on 11 March.
