General Staff: Russian troops attempted to advance in 2 directions from Izium but did not succeed

Russian troops attempted to conduct an offensive operation from Izium on Barvinkove and Sloviansk, but did not succeed.

According to the General Staff: "The enemy is conducting offensive operations in the Skhid [East] Operational Zone in order to defeat the [Ukrainian] Joint Forces, establish full control over the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts [regions], and secure a land route between those territories and occupied Crimea."

Details: On the Volyn, Polissia and Siverskyi fronts, there was no active action and no significant changes in the position and activities of units of Russian troops that protect the parts of the state border that Ukraine shares with Belarus and Russia.

On the Slobozhanskyi front, Russian occupation forces continued shelling Kharkiv, Karasivka, Prudianka, and Kororbochkine with artillery and rocket-propelled grenade launchers.

Russian troops attempted to advance from Izium to Barvinkove and Sloviansk and carried out assault operations to this end; however, they were unsuccessful. They shelled the towns of Velyka Komyshuvakha, Virnopillia and Nova Dmytrivka.

On the Donetsk and Tavriia fronts, Russian troops engaged in artillery shelling of the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In the city of Mariupol, they fired missiles at Ukrainian positions on the territory of the Azovstal plant. Russian occupation forces continue their assault on the town of Popasna.

On the Pivdennyi Buh front, Russian troops fired on the positions of Ukrainian troops near the towns of Kniazivka and Mykolaivka.

Ukraine’s defence forces inflicted heavy losses on the enemy.

In the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts alone, 7 attacks by the Russian forces were repulsed on 24 April, and 13 Russian tanks, 3 artillery systems, 17 units of armoured equipment, 4 armoured combat vehicles, 18 units of automotive equipment and 4 fuel tankers were destroyed.

Air defence units shot down 3 Orlan-10 unmanned aerial vehicles in the sky over the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts.
