Russian assault on Kharkiv region unsuccessful – General Staff

Russian forces have unsuccessfully attempted to storm and assault areas in the Kharkiv region and elsewhere in the east of Ukraine.

Quote: "There is an intensification of the offensive and assault activity of enemy units in the areas of Pashkove, Dovgenke, and Velyka Komyshuvakha [Kharkiv region]. The enemy has been unsuccessful, suffered losses, and was forced to retreat to previously occupied fronts."

Details: Russia has been transferring weapons and military equipment to the Kupyansk district of the Kharkiv region. Its forces continue to partially blockage Kharkiv and fire on Ukrainian troops and critical infrastructure.

In the Donetsk and Tavriya areas, Russian troops are building up their command-and-control systems and air defence, while continuing to fire on Ukrainian positions from mortars, artillery, and rocket-propelled grenade launchers along the entire line of contact. Russian operational and tactical aircraft inflict air strikes.

In the Sievierodonetsk area, Russian forces unsuccessfully tried to carry out assault operations in the direction of Lyman and Yatskivka. They did however establish control over part of the village of Zarichne. Russian troops tried to gain a foothold in the western, northwestern, and eastern parts of Rubizhne, but failed, and began advancing in the directions of the settlements of Orikhove and Nyzhnie.

In the Popasna area, Russian occupying forces tried to strengthen their positions. They regrouped and replenished personnel and ammunition to prepare for further assaults.

In the Kurakhiv area, with the support of artillery, Russian forces unsuccessfully attempted an offensive in the direction of the settlements of Novomykhailivka and Maryinka.

In Mariupol, Russian occupying forces continued to fire on and fight in the Azovstal area and launched air strikes on civilian infrastructure. They also attempted assault operations in the direction of Vremivka, a village near the Donetsk-Dnipropetrovsk-Zaporizhia regions’ administrative border, suffered losses, and retreated to previously occupied positions.

In the Volyn and Polissya directions, the enemy did not take active action. Up to seven battalions of the Belarusian Armed Forces continue to patrol the Ukrainian-Belarusian border in the Brest and Gomel regions. Weapons and military equipment of Russia’s Eastern Military District, mostly damaged, are being transported from Belarus to Russia via Gomel in the direction of Bryansk.

In the Seversk direction, the border service of the FSB of the Russian Federation continues to patrol the Ukrainian-Russian border in the Bryansk and Kursk regions. Regrouping of units of the Central Military District to the eastern regions of Ukraine is ongoing. Russia also plans to move an anti-aircraft gun division from the 14th Air and Anti-Aircraft Defence Force from Kursk to the Belgorod region.

In the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, Russian occupying forces are restricting the rights and freedoms of civilians, including freedom of movement.
