According to Yerko: "Today we finished clearing all the rubble. 8 [high-rise apartment] buildings have been completely destroyed and 32 have been partially damaged.

Private houses have also been destroyed on the territory of our community; nearly 500 houses have been completely destroyed, nearly 450 more houses have been partially destroyed or damaged.

The bodies of 41 civilians have been retrieved from under the rubble. Those who have been shot were buried by their relatives and loved ones in their courtyards or allotments. Some of the people were buried in the cemetery - I think around 100 people."

Details: Yerko noted that the occupiers did not allow local residents to bury the dead – or even collect their bodies – for between 10 and 15 days.

"You had to go to the commandant’s office and make some arrangements, because people were not allowed to be out on the streets in the centre of the town," he said.

Background:

  • On 2 April, the Kyiv region was liberated from the Russian occupiers.
  • Over 1,000 civilians have died in the Kyiv region in the wake of Russian aggression.
