The first billion hryvnias (about 34 million US dollars) has been allocated for reconstructing communities liberated from the Russian invaders, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has announced.

"We are transferring the first billion hryvnias from the reserve fund for emergency spending to rebuild the territories liberated from Russian troops. The funds will be used to remedy the consequences of hostilities and restore infrastructure as a matter of priority," Shmyhal wrote.

In particular, 400 million hryvnias (about 13 million US dollars) has been allocated to the Kyiv region and 250 million hryvnias (about 8 million US dollars)  to both the Chernihiv region and the Sumy region. Another 100 million (about 3 million US dollars) has been allocated to the Zhytomyr region.

The funds will be used to repair utility networks and systems to restore heat, gas, water and electricity.

In addition, the funds will be used to clear rubble, repair roofs, replace windows and doors, fill in potholes and address other priority needs.

The civil-military administration of each region will administer the funds, and the process will be coordinated by the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development.

"This is only the first stage, and there is still a lot of work ahead to rebuild our country. We will start immediately after our victory," Shmyhal said.
