Background:
- On 31 March, Energoatom reported that Russian troops were planning to leave the Chornobyl NPP and its satellite town of Slavutych.
- The Russians occupied the NPP on the first day of the full-scale invasion, 24 February. Staff were taken hostage, with the Russians prohibiting the implementation of scheduled rotations. Staff exhaustion threatened the safety of the inactive NPP.
- The Russian occupiers kicked up radioactive dust while moving through the Red Forest without protection.
- Energoatom warned that Russian troops have been subject to internal and external irradiation within the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone.
