Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba called on the international community to urgently demand Russia ceasefire and allow repair units to restore power to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
The minister wrote about this on his Twitter, "European Pravda" reports.
Quote: "The single power grid that feeds the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and all its nuclear facilities seized by the Russian army has been damaged. The Chernobyl nuclear power plant has lost all the electricity. I urge the international community to urgently demand a ceasefire and allow repair units to resume electricity supplies."
He noted that the backup diesel generators are designed for 48 hours of operation of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. After that, the cooling systems of the spent nuclear fuel storage will be stopped, inevitably leaking radiation.
Quote: "Putin's barbaric war threatens the whole of Europe. He must stop it immediately!"
On Wednesday, due to the actions of the Russian occupiers, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was left without electricity.
The fighting continues, making it impossible to repair and restore power. Ukrainian city Slavutych is also without electricity.
