"We are freezing to death" – Kyiv region zoo in crisis
The zoo known as "Park 12 misyatsiv" (12-month park - ed.) in Demydiv, near Kyiv, reports that it is suffering from the Russian occupation. The village where it is located, along with other nearby villages, are cut off from gas and electricity.
According to the director of the zoo, Mykhailo Pinchuk, the situation is critical.
"We are freezing to death. The zoo is cut off from Ukraine, as currently the village of Demydiv is a part of occupied territory.
"No one is allowing us to bring anything here, and they have no plans to fix anything.
"We are trying to collect at least some diesel fuel, but only from within our territory, because the occupiers are not going to let any through," said Pinchuk.
He added that, unfortunately, the animals could not be soothed like children – dressed in warm sweaters and made to drink hot tea.
"Our stores of diesel fuel are exhausted, and we are starting to die," stated the zoo director.
Pinchuk said that he was ready, if needed, to exchange diesel fuel for money or to make a bank transfer to pay for it.
