German BASF continues to work in Russia after the announcement of the cessation of supplies

The German chemical concern BASF, one of the leaders among the manufacturers of chemical plant protection products, will continue to supply Russia, despite the announcement of February 24 about their cessation.

Relevant letters to suppliers from the Russian management of BASF are available to the Ekonomichna Pravda (Economic Truth).

At the beginning of the war in Ukraine, on February 24, the German company BASF announced the cessation of supply of plant protection products to farmers in Russia. However, on March 4, the company abandoned its decision, saying that supplies would be resumed.

On March 6, BASF announced that the company would freeze new business in Russia and Belarus, but existing divisions would continue to operate.

In 2021, the Russian market accounted for 1% of BASF's total revenue.

At one time, BASF helped Russia and Gazprom increase the EU's gas dependence. In 2015, the company exchanged its gas facilities in Europe with Gazprom - huge underground gas storage facilities in Reden and Emgum (Germany) and Gaida (Austria), oil and gas exploration and production in the southern North Sea in exchange for 25% plus one action of blocks IV and V in the Achimov layer of the Urengoy gas condensate field in Western Siberia.

The German company was also a partner in Nord Stream 2.

During World War II, BASF's chemical plants collaborated with the Nazi regime of Adolf Hitler.
