Ukraine has voiced four expectations from court in The Hague in genocide case against Russia
EVROPEISKA PRAVDA (EUROPEAN TRUTH) - MONDAY, 7 MARCH 2022, 16:19
Ukraine is expecting four interim measures from the UN Court in The Hague, which is hearing the case over the non-existent "genocide" of the Russian-speaking population in Ukraine.
This was stated by Oksana Zolotareva, Ukraine's co-counsel at the UN Court, during an extraordinary hearing in The Hague on Monday, according to an article in European Pravda.
Ukraine specifically asked the Court to adopt the following interim measures:
а. That the Russian Federation immediately suspend the military action which began on 24 February 2022, the stated purpose of which is to "prevent and punish" the alleged genocide in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions of Ukraine.
- That the Russian Federation immediately ensure that any military or irregular armed formations it manages or supports, as well as any organisations and individuals, do not contribute to the military operations whose purpose is declared to be the "prevention" or "punishment" of the alleged genocide committed by Ukraine.
- That the Russian Federation refrain from any action that aggravates this dispute.
- That the Russian Federation report to the Court on the implementation of this order.
"This is a matter of life or death for the Ukrainian people. So I respectfully urge the Court to issue your order as soon as possible," Zolotareva said.
Russia has reportedly refused to defend itself in the case in The Hague. The hearing is going ahead despite this.
