According to the Polish Border Guard Service, the number of people fleeing the war in Ukraine by crossing into Poland has today exceeded one million, writes ‘EuropeanPravda’.

"The number of people who fled Ukraine to Poland has exceeded one million today at 20:00. This is a million human tragedies, a million people expelled from their homes by the war," Polish border guards wrote on Twitter with a photo of refugees crossing the border.

"You are safe," border guards added.

On Sunday, UN High High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi said over 1.5 million people had fled Ukraine to neighbouring countries in the past 10 days to escape Russia’s war in Ukraine.

The EU has approved a mechanism (Temporary Protection Directive (TPD) (2001/55/EC)) to protect Ukrainian refugees without the normally required lengthy asylum procedures.
