Ukraine to boost capacity for importing gas from Poland
The Operator of the Gas and Transport System of Ukraine (OGTSU) and the corresponding operator in Poland, Gaz System S.A., have agreed to introduce guaranteed gas import capacity from 6 March 2022.
This was reported by the press service of the Operator of the Gas and Transport System of Ukraine.
"This provides an opportunity to physically import gas from Poland, including from the LPG terminal, on a guaranteed basis, contributing to the security of gas supplies for the needs of Ukraine.
Over the past three months, OGTSU's international partners have taken important steps in cooperation to enhance security of supply. Now, in the absence of transit, Ukrainian market participants will be able to receive gas from three directions: Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia," the statement said.
At the auctions for capacity distribution in the Polish-Ukrainian direction, short-term "within-a- day" and "for-the-next-day" products will be offered of a kind not contracted for by previously available longer-term products (annual, quarterly, monthly capacity).
On average, Ukraine consumes 100-120 million cubic metres of m-gas daily.
"Over the past three months, the OGTSU has signed agreements with gas and transport system operators in neighbouring countries which have increased capacity for gas imports to more than 50 million cubic metres daily (over 18 billion cubic metres per year), which is about half of the country's natural gas needs," the company added.
