Situation in Ukraine’s regions as of 5 March

"Ukrainska Pravda" - Saturday, 5 March, 09:22

Most regions in Ukraine have had a relatively peaceful night, with the exception of Kharkiv and Zhytomyr regions, which were subject to attacks by the Russian forces. Chernihiv and Sumy regions were under enemy fire as well.

Details: regions that experienced zero or few air-raid sirens throughout the night were the Rivno, Chernivtsi, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Poltava, Lviv, Dnipro, Vinnytsia, Cherkassy, Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil, Volyn, Kirovograd and Odesa regions.

The situation in the Mykolaiv region is under control.

Kherson was relatively quiet, with no shots or explosions.

The residential areas of Ukraine’s second-largest city, Kharkiv, located in the east, were under fire.

In the Zhytomyr region, sirens were heard and a factory was hit.

Since early this morning, the city of Sumy has been under air strikes. Residential areas and city’s infrastructure are being targeted. Lebedyn has gone without electricity or communications for over 24 hours as a result of an air strike.

Following five days of the Russian invasion, Trostianets is the only town in the Sumy region that the aggressor has managed to occupy. There are no groceries to be found, as all the stores have been looted. Parts of Okhtyrka, a town in the Sumy region, have been destroyed by Russian artillery. For the past six days, attempts have been made to clear the rubble of the local military unit destroyed by the Russian forces. Russian aviation has destroyed a thermal power plant, depriving local people of heating, electricity and water supply.

The situation is tense in the Zaporizhzhya region, as Russian troops are erecting fortifications and plundering local businesses and the population. However, no major conflicts have occurred throughout the night. The region’s centre, Zaporizhzhya, was relatively peaceful.

The Bucha district of the Kyiv region continues to witness the heaviest action. Russian forces are found in Bucha and Irpin. Fighting is taking place in Makariv and Hostomel. Air-raid sirens are being heard across the entire Kyiv region.

In the Chernihiv region, the Russian aggressors are dealing heavy blows to the regional centre, Chernihiv, causing damage to residential buildings. Defensive battles are taking place in and outside the city.

The Luhansk region reports that artillery shelling began in the morning, following a quiet night.

The northern and central parts of the Donetsk region are relatively peaceful. Some shelling with heavy weaponry has occurred, for instance, with Grad and Uragan multiple rocket launchers in Toretsk and Avdiivka, and with cluster munitions in Pokrovsk.

The situation in the south of Ukraine remains complex. Volnovakha and Mariupol are under siege and are suffering constant shelling. The level of destruction has reached a critical point, and the municipal infrastructure has suffered great losses. However, Volnovakha and Mariupol remain under Ukrainian control.

Realising their defeat, Russians turn to disinformation tactics. They have announced that the Ukrainian leaders have fled the country or surrendered.

Ukrainian authorities emphasise that these statements are false.

All regions of Ukraine are being protected by its military defences. Locals are resisting the invaders, detaining saboteurs and ignoring provocations.

Long live Ukraine!
