3 to 5 years in prison for anti-war appeal in Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law criminalising "fake news" about the actions of the Russian military.

The penalty for breaking this law is a fine of 700,000-1.5 million RUB, or 3 years in prison for knowingly spreading "fake" news about the actions of the Russian Armed Forces.
The penalty for "fakes" with "fake evidence or on the grounds of hatred or enmity" created by public officials or an organised group constitutes a fine of RUB 3-5 million and 5-10 years of imprisonment.
The penalty for knowingly distributing "fakes" that have caused "severe consequences" is 10-15 years in a prison camp.
The penalty for appeals to stop Russian troops from defending "Russian interests", " supporting peace and safety" and/or "discrediting" the measures to ensure such actions (if the violator has been previously brought to administrative responsibility within a year) constitutes a fine of 100,000-300,000 RUB or up to 3 years in prison.
The penalty in cases when such "calls for obstruction or such discrediting have caused serious consequences" constitutes a fine of 300,000-1 million RUB or up to 5 years in prison.
For calls to impose sanctions against Russia (if the violator has been previously brought to administrative responsibility within a year), one will be fined up to 500,000 RUB or detained for up to 3 years in a prison camp.
