Zelenskyy urges Norway to provide Ukraine with anti-ship weapons and NASAMS system

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said in an address to the Norwegian parliament that Ukraine needs anti-ship weapons and anti-aircraft systems, and means of defeating armoured vehicles and artillery systems to defend itself against Russian aggression.

Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Norway for the support already given to Ukraine, in particular for assistance with weapons.

"You have made historic steps by providing us with what we needed in the fight for freedom and against tyranny. But the war continues. Russia is throwing new forces onto our land to continue to destroy us, to destroy Ukrainians. We must do more to stop the war," he stressed.

"The first and most important thing is weapons. Freedom must be armed as well as tyranny. I will be very specific: we are losing people, we are losing cities, and they are collapsing. That is why I want to be very clear about what we need. In particular, anti-ship weapons, Harpoon missiles, and NASAMS anti-aircraft systems," Zelenskyy said.

He also said that Ukraine also needs means of defeating armoured vehicles and artillery systems.

"All the weapons you can help us with will only be used to protect our freedom and your freedom and security," he added.

NASAMS is a Norwegian medium-range surface-to-air missile system. Its main purpose is to destroy enemy air targets at medium and low altitudes under all weather conditions.

As previously reported, the Norwegian government has delivered a new batch of weapons to Ukraine - two thousand more M72 grenade launchers.
