One resident of Slavutych was injured during a rally against the aggressors, in which the Russian troops fired into the air and threw stun grenades at people. Some members of the territorial defence forces were also wounded, but the mayor was released by the aggressors.

Quote from Tymur: "Now there is one wounded person. Apparently, he was wounded by a fragment of a grenade. From what I could see, the wound was in the lower part of his body. He has been taken to hospital. There are also members of the territorial defence forces who were wounded."

Details: The local activist also said that the mayor, Yuriy Fomichev, is not currently in captivity – between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., he was with people near the hospital.

Quote from Tymur: "The mayor came out. He is not in captivity. Apparently, he had been in captivity, but he was probably released. From 10 a.m. till 11 a.m. he stood at the crossroads near the city hospital, the place to which people had driven all these Russian troops, and he talked to people about the situation in the city. He is not in captivity, this is accurate information. He said that he would have to communicate with the aggressors."

Details: The local activist also said that people were surprised to see a crossed circle with red marks on the aggressors’ vehicles. Residents suggest that it may be Belarusian vehicles.

Quote from Tymur: "There was a red mark and a crossed circle on the vehicles. It turns out that these are Belarusian vehicles. We don't know if it was Belarusians; more likely Russians, because we saw units of the Russian Guard. I don't know what the Belarusian military uniform looks like, but among the aggressors there were people in Russian uniform, which we have already seen, some were in pixels like ours, some in black bulletproof vests. Some people wore red and white ribbons – three red stripes and two white ones between them."

Details: The activist added that Ukrainian flags are now hanging all over the city, people are not dispersing, and as of 12:15 p.m. the rally continues.

Quote from Tymur: "Nobody is surrendering in the city. People have pushed the aggressors to the outskirts of the city and plan to expel them further. The invaders said they would just check for weapons among the military and the police and then, allegedly, leave. But people do not believe them and are driving them away. There are no more police or territorial defence forces in the city. But people are standing and will stand."

Previously: On the morning of 26 March, Slavutych residents went to a pro-Ukrainian rally carrying national symbols. They gathered on the main square, unfurled a large national flag and chanted "Slavutych is Ukraine", "Glory to Ukraine".

The Head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Pavliuk, said that on 26 March, the Russian troops invaded Slavutych, the satellite city of Chornobyl, kidnapped the mayor, threw stun grenades and fired into the air.

Background:

  •     On 18 March, Oleksandr Pavliuk, the Head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, said that the town of Slavutych was completely cut off and lacked food.
  •     On 23 March, the Russians shelled a checkpoint in Slavutych, a city in Kyiv Oblast (region).
