On 25 March, General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation published new figures for Russia’s losses in Ukraine. These are, once again, 10 times lower than in reality.
Source: Colonel-General Sergey Rudskoy, First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Russian Federation, in press briefing in Moscow, cited in RIA News
According to Rudskoy: "Unfortunately, we have suffered losses among our comrades in arms during the special operation. As of today, 1,351 soldiers have died, 3,825 have been wounded."
Details: According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russian troops have suffered losses of more than 16,100 military personnel in one month of the war.
Background: Russian forces for the first time acknowledged their losses in the war with Ukraine one week after the full-scale invasion. In particular, they reported the deaths of 498 Russian soldiers and that 1,597 more soldiers have suffered wounds.
At the same time, the Ukrainian military stressed that in the first 6 days of the war Russian troops lost almost 6,000 soldiers in Ukraine, as well as thousands of units of military equipment.
Significance: On the night of 24 February 2022, the Russian Federation insidiously attacked Ukraine from the territory of Belarus and began the movement of troops on several fronts. Putin called it a "special operation" whose ultimate goal was at first falsely described by the Russian leadership as "assistance" to the so-called People’s Republics of Donetsk and Luhansk, and then as "liberation of Ukraine from [unknown] Nazis." Later the Russian Federation spread fear-mongering disinformation that the USA is allegedly developing "ethnically-targeted biological weapons" and even "nuclear weapons."
Russia is violating the rules of war by shelling civilian infrastructure and civilians in Ukraine.
