Night in the regions: the bombing of Chernihiv, Kharkiv and Mykolayiv

The night of 23 March was turbulent for the Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions, with Russians bombing towns and villages.

Details: As of 8.00 on 23 March, the situation in the regions is as follows:

Kyiv region

Overnight, several air raid sirens sounded throughout the region. There was fighting in settlements along the Zhytomyr highway. The Armed Forces of Ukraine were able to improve their positions in the city of Irpin and the village of Moshchun. The Russian invaders are digging in and trying to regroup. At night, the village of Yasnogorodka was shelled by "Grad" multiple rocket launchers. Data on casualties is being confirmed.

Chernihiv region

Defence of Chernihiv.There were 2 air raids overnight on Chernihiv and the city was bombed. The bridge across the Desna River, used for evacuation and humanitarian aid, was destroyed by bombing. Information about other destruction and casualties is currently being confirmed.

Sumy region

The night was relatively calm, except for the city of Trostyanets. There are still fires as a result of the fighting. Businesses were on fire at night, the Russian occupiers have not allowed the emergency services to put them out, and the fires continue to burn.

Zhytomyr region

Several air raid sirens sounded in the evening and at night. No missile strikes were recorded.

Kirovohrad region

The Kirovohrad region is calm, despite the fact that air raid sirens sounded seven times during the past 24 hours.

Dnipropetrovsk region

The night was relatively calm. Yesterday, a rocket attack destroyed a railway station in the city of Pavlograd. One person was killed.

Kharkiv region

Attacks on residential areas and the city’s historic centre intensified again overnight. The Armed Forces of Ukraine repulsed an attempt by the Russian invaders to attack with K-52 combat helicopters. Elsewhere in the region: the occupiers are trying to take the city of Izyum, the Ukrainian army is not losing its positions and is repelling the attacks. The Russians delivered missile strikes on the city of Lozova. At least 8 people were injured, and 20 homes were damaged or destroyed.

Zaporizhzhia region

Several air-raid sirens sounded overnight. There were no explosions.

Volyn region

The night was quiet.

Vinnytsia region

The night was quiet, with no sirens.

Transcarpathia

The night passed without sirens. Everything is calm.

Khmelnytsky region

The situation is calm.

Ternopil

The night passed quietly.

Cherkasy

The situation was calm, the night was quiet.

Lviv region

The night was quiet.

Poltava region

The night was calm; the air raid siren sounded in the morning.  

Rivne region

The situation at night was relatively calm.

Chernivtsi

The night was calm.

Ivano-Frankivsk

The night was calm.

Luhansk region

All cities are in Ukrainian hands, but the shelling continues almost continuously. In the city of Rubizhne a business and an educational institution are on fire, in the city of Lysychansk remnants of fuel at the refinery are on fire. As a result of the shelling of residential neighbourhoods in Rubizhne, 3 people have been killed, including 2 children.

Donetsk region

Significant activation in the towns of Avdiivka and Maryinka. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are holding their ground. Avdiivka was shelled all night. Part of the city is without electricity. There is currently no information about the victims. The city of Volnovakha is occupied. Mariupol is under siege. In addition to air strikes and rocket artillery shelling, Mariupol is now attacked from the sea using ships and launchers. People remain in the city. Leaving the city by personal transport is very dangerous due to constant bombardment.

Mykolayiv region

Mykolaiv came under fire overnight, and the air-raid siren sounded. Information on the destruction is being clarified. Also the siren sounded in a number of other areas in the Mykolaiv region. In the morning, the situation is stable.

Kherson region

Over the past 24 hours, the situation in the Kherson region has hardly changed.

The problems with providing the population with food, medicine and petrol persist. The regional administration also continues to receive reports of landmines.

Odesa

One air raid siren sounded in the evening; the night was calm.
