Ukraine steps up efforts to free civilians from captivity

Authorities are stepping up efforts to free captured civilians, including city mayors and a State Emergency Service worker, the head of the Ministry of the State of Emergency Situations, Iryna Vereshchuk, has said.

According to Vereshchuk: "We are stepping up work to release captured civilians: Yevhen Matveev, mayor of Dneprorudny, Serhiy Priyma, chairman of Melitopol district council, Tetiana Sviridenko, chairman of Ivankova, Volodymyr Tyurin, chairman of the Shchastinsk military and civil administration, Iuriy Palyukh, Secretary of the Skadovsk city council, as well as emergency responder Oleksiy Danchenko."
