Rocket shot down by air defence system hit apartment building in Kyiv: one person killed, damage to the building

In Kyiv, fragments of a rocket that was shot down by Ukraine’s air defence system, damaged a high-rise apartment building, which caught on fire. One person was killed, three are wounded.

Details: At 05:02 on 17 March, Rescue services received information about fire and damage in a high-rise apartment building in the Darnytsya neighbourhood on the left bank of Kyiv.
Firefighters at the scene established that the building caught on fire as a result of fragments of a rocket that has been shot down hitting the building. The building’s construction elements were damaged on the 16th and the technical floors, and one apartment on the 16th floor caught on fire.
At 05:49, the fire, which spanned 20 square metres, was extinguished.
Building’s dwellers who reside on the 11th floor and above are being evacuated. Emergency rescue operations – clearing the debris and searching for people – continue.
According to preliminary information, 30 people have already been evacuated, 3 of whom had been wounded. One person died.
