Russian invaders kidnap mayors of Ukrainian cities who do not submit to the occupiers and do not recognize Russian rule. This was the case in the Zaporizhzhia region, and now in the Kherson region.

Background:

  • On 11 March, Russian invaders abducted the mayor of occupied Melitopol, Ivan Fedorov. After that, Halyna Danylchenko, an MP from the Opposition Bloc, said she was setting up a committee of people's deputies to run Melitopol.
  • On 13 March, Russian invaders abducted Yevhenii Matvieiev, the mayor of Dniprorudne in the Zaporizhzhia region.
  • According to the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, the Russians took Melitopol Mayor Ivan Fedorov to Luhansk, which the Russians occupied 8 years ago. Dniprorudne Mayor Yevhenii Matvieiev has also been taken prisoner by the occupiers, but his fate is unknown.
  • On 10 March, the occupiers abducted Leila Ibrahimova, deputy of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Council, in Melitopol. She was subsequently released. Later, the Russians abducted Olha Haisumova, an activist, and Serhii Pryima, a district council chairman from Melitopol. They also attempted to kidnap the secretary of the Melitopol City Council, Roman Romanov.
