According to Energoatom: "Very soon, the invading forces who are occupying the Zaporizhzhia NPP are planning to start the "disposal" of munitions right on the site of the station near the ruins of the ZNPP training centre.
In other words, some crazy daredevils are going to blow up munitions right in front of power unit No. 1."
What happened earlier: On 12 March, Petro Kotin, the head of NNEGC Energoatom, said that representatives of the so-called "military-civil administration" arrived at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, gathered management staff and said that the station was now owned by Rosatom.
On 11 March, Russian civilians were brought to ZNPP. On 12 March, it became known that there were 11 of them and that they were all Rosatom employees.
Rosatom has said that the Zaporizhzhia NPP seized by the Russians is not under its control.
Background:
- On the night of 4 March, nuclear safety at the Zaporizhzhia NPP was compromised, with reactors in danger due to Russian military shelling and a fire.
- Firefighters were not allowed to extinguish the fire caused by the fighting, but were later allowed to do so - and the fire was extinguished.
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the international community and said that no-one has ever shelled a nuclear power plant, the Russians are using the bombing as blackmail and the world is facing a global catastrophe.
- There are 6 nuclear units at Energodar, whereas only one exploded at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in 1986. There are a total of 15 nuclear power units in Ukraine.
