Polish leaders insist on tightening sanctions against Russia for war crimes and are calling on opponents of Ukraine's accession to the EU to change their stance.
"I have evidence of numerous crimes that I show to the leaders of other countries. I will talk about even tougher sanctions. I ask leaders who do not want Ukraine to be in the EU to change their position," said Poland's Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki.
The Polish Prime Minister made this statement on the eve of the European Council session, according to Onet.pl.
"This is no longer an ordinary war. This is a massacre. This is a massacre… The last two weeks have shocked Europe, but have they really changed Europe? Have they really made this breakthrough in everyone's thinking? I will pose this question to all members of the European Council today," Morawiecki added.
Polish President Andrzej Duda also spoke about punishing Russia for war crimes.
Duda expressed his conviction that those guilty of war crimes in Ukraine will be punished, according to Polish Radio. According to him, the shelling of maternity hospitals and apartment buildings by the Russian military are crimes with characteristics of genocide.
"I deeply believe that the perpetrators will be held accountable before the International Tribunal and that the international community will be able to respond effectively. I want to assure you that we Poles are helping international prosecutors to gather this evidence so that trials will happen and crimes will be punished," Duda said.
