National Police Starts Internal Investigation of Surveillance of Sheremet
The National Police is running an internal inquiry on the alleged surveillance of assassinated journalist Pavel Sheremet and the founding editor of Ukrayinska Pravda Olena Prytula, which was organized by the First Deputy Head of the National Police Vadym Troyan, the National Police website cites Troyan.
"Immediately after I returned from the vacation, I requested the Head of the National Police to carry out an internal inquiry on the allegations of my involvement into organization of illegal surveillance. This was my duty as the head of the criminal-section police of Ukraine," Troyan highlighted.
The Head of the National Police Khatia Dekanoidze initiated the internal inquiry. According to Troyan, the National Police doesn’t conduct any illegal actions, including surveillance, with regard to journalists.
"I believe the inquiry will show the origin of this ‘fake’ and who’s behind it. Someone wanted to do it while I was on vacation," Troyan added.
The National Police earlier rejected the allegation that Troyan had been involved in illegal surveillance of journalists and top officials.
Pavel Sheremet died on the morning of July 20, 2016 after his car, which was owned by Olena Prytula, exploded.
On August 4, the Prosecutor General’s Office told that four main lines of enquiry are analyzed.
