Nasalyk: We Can’t Eschew Coal from Occupied Territories
Ukraine can’t fully eschew coal from the occupied territories in the short run, Energy Minister Ihor Nasalyk said at a press conference on Thursday, August 4, Ukrayinski Novyny informs.
"To be honest, we can’t go without the coal from the ATO zone, we can only close this gap with coal from Russia’s Kuzbass. Actually, we can find other sources, but our shipment capacity is limited," he said.
He added that on August 20-21, a bulk carrier with coal would arrive to a Ukrainian port, not specifying the country of origin.
He also reported the launch of reconstruction of two blocks of the Zmiivska thermal power plant to transition them from anthracite coal to coal gas, Interfax-Ukraine informs.
In early July, DTEK energy holding announced the renewal of coal transportation from the occupied territories of Donetska and Luhanska Oblasts. It also conducts talks on anthracite imports from Australia and South Africa.
