Chief Anti-Corruption Prosecutor Compares Catching MP Onyshchenko to Pokemon GO
Chief Anti-Corruption Prosecutor Nazar Kholodnytskyi doubts that MP Oleksandr Onyshchenko can become a citizen of the UK before he is brought to justice in Ukraine, he said on 5 Kanal on Wednesday night, August 3.
"As far as we are concerned, Onyshchenko entered the UK via his wife, who seems to be the citizen of the EU. We are currently checking this information. He said he applied for political asylum, but we have no official information to confirm this," the Chief Anti-Corruption Prosecutor said. "We are ready to provide Britain all documents related to his case, which prove that the prosecution is not ‘political’ and Onyshchenko needs to be extradited — and we will provide them, if it is confirmed that Onyshchenko is in the UK."
Kholodnytskyi compared trying to locate Onyshchenko to playing Pokemon GO, "given that he owns an air vehicle." "It is true that on Friday afternoon he was in London. Regarding where he was at night — I know this and he knows this. And it wasn’t London," said the Prosecutor, saying the country wasn’t Russia.
"We have clear evidence that when we were lifting his immunity, he was in Russia, namely in Moscow," Kholodnytskyi added.
Onyshchenko said last week that he had applied for political asylum in the UK.
