Herashchenko: Sheremet Murder Designed to Divide Ukrainians
Journalist Pavel Sheremet could have been murdered to cause a confrontation between the people and the authorities, MP and member of the Ministry of Internal Affairs board Anton Herashchenko said on 5 Kanal, UNIAN reports.
Herashchenko said that Sheremet’s murder was demonstrative, perpetrated as a terror attack, posing a danger for the lives of other people. Although the investigation has many lines of enquiry, one of the chief lines is the wish to disrupt the state system, knock the heads of society and the authorities together, "like happened with the Georgiy Gongadze murder," Herashchenko thinks.
Pavel Sheremet, one of Ukrayinska Pravda leading journalists, died on the morning of July 20, 2016 after his car, which was owned by the Founding Editor of Ukrayinska Pravda Olena Prytula, exploded.
Prosecutor General Yuri Lutsenko named the professional activity of Sheremet as the main motive of the assassination.
