Leshchenko: Avakov’s Dismissal Will Provoke Rupture of Coalition
The dismissal of Interior Minister Arsen Avakov will incite rupture of a coalition resulting in early parliamentary coalition, the Petro Poroshenko Bloc MP Serhiy Leshchenko believes.
"Avakov holds the entire power structure hostage. Today he is the highest ranking official from the People’s Front and the only counter-balance to the Petro Poroshenko Bloc in the Government. If dismissed, it could cause rupture of a coalition. As it will be impossible to create the new one, Ukraine will see early parliamentary and probably presidential election," Leshchenko stressed.
The Anti-Corruption Committee MPs initiated Avakov’s dismissal 15 months ago, but this issue was never included in the parliamentary agenda, he added.
After the police officers committed a high-profile murder in Kryve Ozero in Mykolaivska Oblast, a draft resolution on Avakov’s dismissal was registered in the Parliament.
Last time, it was initiated in December 2015 by 20 MPs, including Yehor Soboliev, Serhiy Leshchenko, Oleh Barna, Hanna Hopko, Boryslav Bereza and others. They claimed that Avakov appointed officials who had failed to pass lustration to the top posts in the Interior Ministry.
