A state inspector of the customs clearance department of Chaplynka checkpoint was arrested in Kherson oblast on allegations of bribery, the Security Service of Ukraine reported on August 27.

"Law enforcement has established that the customs officer systematically extorted money for customs clearance of goods that are prohibited to import and exports from temporarily occupied Crimea," the statement says.

SBU officers, together with prosecutors, arrested the customs officer when received ₴2,000 from a Kherson woman who planned to send a batch of clothes for sale in Crimea.

A criminal case against the customs officer has been started, and the investigation is underway.
