Azov Regiment Withdrawn from Mariupol
The National Guard command ordered the Azov regiment to withdraw from Mariupol, the Azov press service reports.
"Some of the units of the regiment were withdrawn to Zaporizhzhia oblast ten days ago to perform tasks that are not appropriate for special forces. The National Guard command could not think of anything better than to place Azov fighters on duty on checkpoints that are not operating and observation posts outside the ATO zone," the statement says.
It is reported that the order was issued shortly before Independence Day celebrations.
"It might be done so that Azov fighters did not stand in the way of surrendering positions and entire cities by local authorities and pro-Russian National Guard commanders,’ Azov accuses.
