Prosecutors: Funds Allocated for ‘The Wall’ on Russian Border Embezzled
Officials of a state-run company in Chernihivska Oblast transferred ₴1.8 million ($72,000) to private companies to build fortifications on the Ukraine-Russia border (the so-called ‘The Wall’ project), but the necessary construction was not completed, the press office of regional prosecutor’s office informs.
According to this information, the officials made an advance payment and agreed to buy construction materials at the customer’s expense, which is against the law.
"Actually, the construction works were not done and no report of completion was signed," the prosecutor’s office highlighted.
Thus, a private company received ₴1.8 million from the budget for doing no work, it underlines.
The pre-trial investigation is underway.
Lead Anti-Corruption Prosecutor Nazar Kholodnytskyi informed earlier that the NABU was investigating the embezzlement of money allocated for ‘The Wall’ project.
