Zhytomyr oblast governor Serhiy Mashkovskyi decided to step down after two years in his position, Zhytomyr.info reports.

"I confirm that I have written a letter of voluntarily resignation today [on August 16]," he told journalists.

Mashovskyi has been Governor for two years.

"After the President signs the order to dismiss me, I will invite all of you [journalists] and if you have any questions [about the reasons], I will answer them," he said.

The Zhytomyr Governor is remembered for banning oblast administration officials from giving comments to the press without prior coordination with a special department.

Mashkovskyi was appointed Governor on July 22, 2014.

Жаль, що Мошковський пішов з посади голови ОДА: як на мене був порядною діловою людиною.
