Russian Warships on High Alert in Sevastopol Bay
Patrol boats and ships have been on 24-hour duty at the entrance to Sevastopol Bay for several days now, Krym Realii reports. According to eyewitnesses, they appeared on August 7, after the events at the administrative border with the occupied Crimea.
On August 10, there were even three small-size warships on duty at the bay. A submarine has also been spotted there.
Patrol boats usually start 24 hour patrol when there is a real threat to military communications in the near-shore area or a threat of invasion. Internet users also notice that on August 11, passenger sea traffic in Sevastopol, which is the base for Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, was suspended. This usually happens when warships are out at sea.
On August 11, President Poroshenko instructed to place all Ukrainian military units deployed near the administrative border with Crimea and along the contact line in Donbas on alert.
The United States is calling on Russia and Ukraine to show restraint in the wake of a new round of tension around the Crimean peninsula.
