Runaway Irpin Mayor ‘Returns to City’
Irpin Mayor Volodymyr Karpliuk decided to return to the city, Hromada Pryirpinnia media outlet cites local residents who witnessed him on the city streets along with his deputy and MP Pashynskyi. The outlet updated the Prosecutor General’s Office on the matter.
According to the journalists, Karpliuk is on vacation until August 19.
On July 21, searches were conducted in the houses of Karpliuk and Bucha Mayor Anatolii Fedoruk. Both of them are suspected of illegal construction in forest areas, they face up to six years of imprisonment.
According to the GPU, the mayors of these cities illegally disposed of 890 hectares of forestry lands resulting in hundreds of millions losses for the state. One of the episodes investigated by the GPU includes allocation of 14 hectares to Yanukovych-era First Deputy Chairman of the Parliament Igor Kaletnyk.
On the same day, the GPU informed that Karpliuk had left the country, while he denied it.
Karpliuk is known for spending 174 days on vacation over less than two years in his post.
