Court Freed Official Who Caused Accident While Allegedly DUI
Kyiv-Svyatoshyn Rayon Court ruled to release Ivan Fedoruk from the jail. Fedoruk is Former Director of Cargo Transit at Ukrzaliznytsia [ed: Ukraine’s major state-owned railway operator]. He caused a road accident and severely injured wife and son of photojournalist Maks Levin. Fedoruk was released on personal recognizance bond today.
The release on recognizance was asked for by a prosecutor in the case. The court hearings were private after the judge ruled so ‘to protect private information and the materials of the pre-trial investigation’. No journalists were allowed to attend.
As it was already reported, on Sunday Fedorko’s car crossed into the oncoming lane on Boyarka — Zabirya automobile road and caused collision with the car of Maks Levin and his family.
Two separate criminal investigations were launched in this respect: one on violation of the traffic rules and another one on obstructing the police officer. Ukrzaliznytsia suspended Fedorko on July 4 following the accident.
