Rada Removed Onyshchenko’s Immunity and Allowed his Arrest

Verkhovna Rada approved submission by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine to launch criminal proceedings against Oleksandr Onyshchenko, an MP from Volya Narodu [En.: People's Will] parliamentary group.

The decision was voted for by 275 MPs. Another vote, supported by 265 MPs, approved detaining Onyshchenko. 263 MPs supported Onyshchenko’s arrest despite previous discussions.

Onyshchenko himself was absent from the Rada today.

Earlier, the Committee on Rules of Parliamentary Procedure agreed on approving the launch of the criminal proceedings against Onyshchenko, yet it decided that his arrest would be premature.
