Klitschko Concerned Another Real Estate Fraudster Might Escape
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko is planning to ask the Prosecutor General’s Office to change the pretrial restrictive measure for the infamous developer Anatoliy Voytsekhovskyi, he said during the session of Kyiv City Council, the press service of the Kyiv City Administration reports.
Klitschko said he was going to do it "so that he wouldn’t escape like Oleksandr Shahov", the organizer of the Kyiv Elita-Tsentr real estate scam. "Because the bail of ₴14 million is nothing compared to the scams that are worth hundreds of million or even billions of hryvnia," he explained.
The developer is accused of tax evasion totaling ₴12.5 million, organizing a criminal group, and other offenses. Because of Voytsekhovskyi’s scam, 10,000 Ukrainians may be left with neither their apartments, nor their money.
Earlier on July 17 the court ruled to establish pretrial restrictive measure as two months in jail with the possibility of bail. Voytsekhovskyi’s lawyer said he didn’t have the amount necessary for bail, but on July 27 the bail was posted and he was released.
