Minister of Finance Oleksandr Danyliuk does not see reasons why Ukraine should repay $3 billion that was borrowed at the end of the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych, he said on Espreso TV, Ekonomichna Pravda reports.

"This loan was political, Russia made Ukraine take it. That’s why our position is that we don’t have to repay it," Danyliuk said. He also reminded that Russia occupied Crimea and carries out aggression in the eastern part of the country, which led to Ukraine losing a large part of its economic output.

Ukraine is going to defend this position in court. On May 27, the objections to the claim of The Law Debenture Trust Corporation PLC, the trustee according to the document stating that the Russian Federation loaned Ukraine $3 billion in December 2013, were filed to the High Court of Justice in England.
