Poroshenko Launches Army Special Operations Forces
During a meeting with servicemen of special operations forces, President Poroshenko signed the Law on Army Special Operation Forces of Ukraine, the presidential press office reports. July 29 was established as the Day of Army Special Operation Forces of Ukraine.
He underlined that this step is vital ‘for the protection of Ukraine from Russian aggression.’ The law sets the legal framework for the activities Special Operation Forces and their interaction with other troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The President underlined that reforms and supply of the state-of-the-art equipment are being prioritized at international meetings and visits of foreign delegations. Partners from the U.S., Canada and the EU put a focus on joint training and building the capacity of special operations forces.
A special training centre and curricula are already available in Ukraine to provide prompt and high-quality training to such forces, he added.
According to Poroshenko, special operations forces had nothing apart from morale in 2014. "Look at the work we’ve done over the past two years. Our special operations forces will definitely prove themselves worthy," Poroshenko highlighted.
The Law was developed in line with NATO standards. It also complies with the provisions of the Strategic Defense Bulletin, the President claimed. It is expected to build the deterrent capacity of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the capacity to run special missions, including overseas.
