Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko announced that a group of top Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) officials "with many stars on their shoulders" will be arrested in the near future on allegations of torture and extortion, UNIAN reports from a press briefing in Chernihiv.

"I have the moral right to come to Rivne oblast now and walk around my native city with a clear conscience, after what law enforcement managed to achieve with the ‘amber mafia’," Lutsenko said. He added that the mafia used to be untouchable because "last year amber brought $1 million in cash a day, and now the experts estimate the daily revenue at $700,000."

Lutsenko said that the law enforcement officers who are soon to be arrested "have shot people in legs and arms and broken skulls during extortion."
