The First Deputy Head of the National Police Vadym Troyan who, according to some sources, organized surveillance of assassinated journalist Pavel Sheremet and the founding editor of Ukrayinska Pravda Olena Prytula, is currently on vacation, the Head of the National Police Khatia Dekanoidze said on 112 Channel on Sunday, July 25.

Dekanoidze said that she learned about the criminal proceedings against Troyan regarding surveillance of Sheremet and Prytula when Yuriy Lutsenko spoke about it on TV on Saturday, July 24. She also ensured that the investigation of the assassination is being closely monitored by top state officials.

"We held a closed meeting on this case with the President of Ukraine. The detectives and I reported to the Prime Minister earlier today. And of course, the Minister has all the information," Dekanoidze said. The Minister of Internal Affairs is also currently on vacation, but will be back in his office soon.

The Head of the National Police said the investigation is doing a large-scale job in the Sheremet case: "We need to watch videos from CCTV cameras within the radius of several kilometers from the home of the journalist. Our other job is collecting testimonials of several hundred witnesses."

Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko said earlier that criminal proceedings have been started against the First Deputy Head of the National Police Vadym Troyan who allegedly illegally organized surveillance of Sheremet and Prytula. The Ministry of Internal Affairs denies his involvement.

Journalist Pavel Sheremet died on July 20 in a car blast, in the car that belonged to the founding editor of Ukrayinska Pravda Olena Prytula.
