Savchenko Says She Must Become President and Is Considering Dictatorship
Batkivshchyna MP Nadiya Savchenko says she has to become the President of Ukraine, she said in an interview to Deutsche Welle.
When asked about her ambitions for presidency, Savchenko replied it is not her wish, but rather, a necessity: "I used to say that I don’t want to [become president], but I can. And now I will probably say that I just might have to [become president]."
Savchenko is convinced that the political change in Ukraine has to come from the top and that Ukrainians might need a period of dictatorship: "To change the presidential powers, the structure of the country, relaunch the laws to make them work, fight corruption — you need to become a kind of a dictator who has everything in their hands. In order to bring the power back to the people and make sure nobody ever takes it away from them," Savchenko said.
