Ambassador to Poland: Sejm Vote on ‘Genocide’ Prioritizes Politics Over Balanced Analysis
Ukraine’s Ambassador to Poland Andrii Deshchytsia stressed on his Facebook page that when adopting the resolution on declaring the Volyn tragedy ‘genocide’, Polish MPs prioritized a politicized attitude towards the tragic events of 1943-1945.
"It is extremely sad that some Polish politicians adopted this resolution without taking into account numerous proposals from the Ukrainian side to make joint evaluation of our common history," the Ambassador noted.
Priority was given to "a one-sided political attitude rather than to findings of impartial international research or at least joint Ukraine-Poland expert research and its legal conclusions," Deshchytsia claimed.
On July 22, Poland’s Sejm adopted a resolution declaring 11 July a National Day of Remembrance of Victims of Genocide perpetrated by Ukrainian nationalists against Poles during World War II. According to the resolution, some 100,000 ethnic Poles in total were slaughtered in the 1940s by Ukrainian forces.
