Irpin Mayor Confesses He Received Notification About His Planned Arrest
Irpin Mayor Volodymyr Karpliuk denies he fled from Ukraine, he told by phone to 112.Ukraine TV Channel.
"I did not flee from Ukraine. I won’t disclose my current location, because I was told yesterday night that there was a ‘political instruction’ to brutally put me in jail for 60 days", Karpliuk said. He did not say who had provided this information.
Commenting on the 67 apartments in his possession, he stated that he had bought them when he was in the private sector.
On July 21, Ukrayinska Pravda informed that the mayors of Irpin and Bucha – cities in Kyivska Oblast – could be sentenced to six years in prison. If they are also convicted of abuse of power, the incarceration term may be as high as 12 years.
According to the GPU, the mayors of these cities illegally disposed of 890 hectares of forestry lands resulting in hundreds of millions of losses for the state.
