Poroshenko: FBI to Join Investigation of Sheremet Murder
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation agreed to President Poroshenko’s proposal to join investigation of the murder of Ukrayinska Pravda journalist Pavel Sheremet. Poroshenko told this in a phone call to editor-in-chief of Ukrayinska Pravda Sevgil Musaieva-Borovik. He also expressed condolences to the family members of the journalist and the editorial team.
He asked for FBI involvement to ensure transparency of the investigation. In addition, Poroshenko instructed Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin to invite Europol to join the investigation.
According to Poroshenko, the best investigators are assigned to this enquiry.
He informed about his decision to assign guards to Ukrayinska Pravda founding editor Olena Prytula and offered guards to the editor-in-chief.
"President said that this was a test – someone wants to destabilize the situation in the country. [Poroshenko] shared our pain," Musaieva-Borovik stressed. He told that he was ready to support Ukrayinska Pravda and stay in touch 24/7.
Ukrayinska Pravda journalist Pavel Sheremet died in a car blast on Wednesday morning, July 20. He was in a car owned by founding editor Olena Prytula.
According to preliminary data of the Interior Ministry, the car was destroyed by an improvised shell-less explosive device, which was likely guided remotely.
One of the lines of police enquiry in the investigation of Sheremet’s murder is that this was an attempted murder of Olena Prytula.
