Savchenko ‘Ready to Be Minister of Defense’

Batkivshchyna MP Nadiya Savchenko would agree to head the Ministry of Defense if she got the offer, she said on 112 Ukrayina on July 2.

She said that this would only "legalize the status quo." Savchenko explained that officers who have real war experience in the ATO zone now have enough skills to assume a wider range of responsibilities than their rank supposes. "Captains have the level of lieutenant colonels," she said. "Some — not all — colonels who are currently in command of brigades have the level of General Staff officers."

She also said that most generals currently serving in the General Staff are ineffective. "First of all, I would legalize the part of the army that is really effective, and get rid of everything that just receives funding, but is ineffective, promotes corruption, and harms the army units at the frontline."
