Naftogaz Will Not Pay Gazprom for Gas Supplied to Militants

The claims of Gazprom about the debt of Naftogaz for gas that was allegedly supplied by the Russian company to the non-government-controlled areas of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts are erroneous, Naftogaz says.

The Ukrainian company’s message says that in the past several years Naftogaz has been buying gas from Gazprom only on the condition of advance payments. "Naftogaz has not paid for gas or bought gas from Gazprom since November 2015. Before that, Naftogaz imported gas only through the gas pipeline system entry points located on the government-controlled territories. All gas volumes purchased by Naftogaz have been accounted by the parties, and paid for by Naftogaz."

Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller said earlier that the debt of Naftogaz for the gas supplied to these regions of Ukraine has reached $718.5 million. According to the press service of Naftogaz, the matter is to be resolved through arbitration.
