Poland to Improve Conditions for Seasonal Migrant Workers
Poland is considering changing the working conditions for foreigners, as Deputy Minister for Family, Labour and Social Policy of Poland Stanislav Swede stated, "Polske Radio" reports [ed.: the text of this hyperlink is in the Ukrainian language].
The Government is about to equalize the wages of foreign employees and Poles in seasonal employment starting from Jan 1, 2017. "The so-called Seasonal Work Directive will apply to foreigners early next year," the Deputy Minister explained, "It will contribute to the seasonal employment of foreigners." He also pointed out that the provision of equal wages and working conditions will be introduced. Ukrainian are the most interested in seasonal employment, he added.
Last year Poland issued 800,000 work permits for foreigners, while 500,000 people got a job. This year 500,000 applications for a work permit were submitted by mid-May. Thus, over 1 million applications are anticipated by year–end.
Seasonal migrant workers are eligible to for employment in the agriculture, construction and service industries.
