Chief Sanitary Doctor ‘Caught Cashing Embezzled Money’

NABU and police arrested the Chief Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Sviatoslav Protas in his office when he was cashing a first tranche of money he embezzled, the Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov reported on Facebook [ed.: the text of this Facebook post is in the Russian language]. The Head of the Department at the State Sanitary Service was also arrested.

According to Avakov, a group of state officials has "developed and implemented a criminal scheme for embezzlement of large amounts of state funding. Chief Sanitary Doctors of 19 oblasts who agreed to cooperate in Protas’ scheme are being searched and interrogated. Some of them may be arrested, too.
