SBU: Former MP Aleksandrovska Conspired with the FSB

Wednesday, 29 June 2016, 13:23

Former deputy from the Communist Party of Ukraine Alla Aleksandrovska attempted to bribe the deputies of local councils to support changes to the Ukrainian Constitution on federalization, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reports.

Aleksandrovska and her son Oleksandr offered $9,000 to sign petitions to the parliament and the president asking to introduce federalization. "The FSB provided a much larger amount of money for bribes, but the communists embezzled much of it," the SBU adds.

Such ‘initiatives’ of the local councils would have given Putin’s diplomats grounds to accuse the Ukrainian authorities of ignoring the will of the people by not federalizing or providing special powers such as ‘free trade’ to certain regions such as Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine.

On June 24, the SBU arrested a man when he was paying a bribe to an official at the city council of Pivdenne in Kharkiv oblast. At the request of the SBU, city councillors imitated including the petition on federalization into the agenda of a council meeting. This allowed the SBU to collect evidence in a legal manner in accordance with the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine and arrest other people guilty of collaborating with the Russian secret services.

After the voting to approve the petition failed, Aleksandrovskyi attempted to fool his FSB bosses by ordering an article in an online media outlet to prove that he succeeded with the task. However, Pivdenne city council did not approve the petition, nor was it included in the agenda for real.

Alla Aleksandrovska has been arrested, her son Oleksandr has escaped to Russia and is hiding there.
